[<>] ====== WLGO Broadcast Tower ====== **Designer:** designers:Jennifer Heaton **Designed:** August 2013 ===Designer's Notes=== After I built the switching station I vowed I would never build with LEGO string again. You have to tie the ends to little tiny pieces, and the whole process takes forever and makes me think I need bifocals. And then you knock into one of the strings when you move the module and the whole thing falls over. But I kept driving by the radio antenna on the University of Minnesota Golf Course and thinking it looked pretty cool. I have fond feelings about antenna towers anyway because of spending time at the University of Minnesota's Cedar Creek Research Station. You used to be able to climb a ladder up to the top of the 100 foot tall tower and sit up on a tiny platform (I'm pretty sure they don't allow this any more). It was the only place where the deerflies couldn't reach you to suck your blood. So I finally gave in and built the WLGO antenna. This is one build that the photos don't really do justice. I love how it turned out. There are a couple big difficulties with building an antenna tower in LEGO. First, it's difficult to do it without making the parts too big and chunky. Second, it's difficult to taper the tower as it goes up. I dealt with the first by using girders and the second by using a pirate ship mast. == Current Version == ---- ~~DISQUS~~
