[<>] ====== Kepler Tower ====== **Designer:** designers:Nathan Stohlmann **Designed:** March 2012 ===Designer's Notes=== Oddly, this building started out as a wp>Roundabout. I had been thinking about alternative road types besides the standard straight and perpendicular that is the most common in Micropolis and had recently built a Bluff Switchback and replicated a copy of Rakanishu1024's excellent Freeway module prototype and so a roundabout seemed like an obvious next challenge to tackle, but it wasn't going to work. My basic idea was to use a nested set of half-arches but I ran into a significant issue: LEGO doesn't make one of the necessary parts! Specifically, the smallest arch (Brick W. Arch 1X1X1 1/3) fits nicely inside the second smallest (Brick 1X3X2 W/Ins And Outs.Bow) and the biggest arch (Brick W. Arch 1X1X3 1/3) fits nicely inside another part (Brick W. Bow 1X5X4) and it's complement (Brick With Bow 1X5X4 Inv.). However there is no arch part that fits between those two sets of nested arches. So there I was with two neat prototypes for nested arches and no module to put them in when Jennifer suggested that we needed more tall buildings in downtown and maybe I should work on something for that while I figured out what to do about the roundabout. In return I challenged her to build a tower in one day, which resulted in the Red Crystal Tower and I built the Kepler using the the inner nested arches for rings around the building and a Technic internal structure that I had been kicking around in my head for awhile. Both were ready for the display at Leonardo's Basement the next afternoon. [<>] ---- ~~DISQUS~~
